The Sentinel-2 image shows the Storebæltsforbindelsen bridge, which connects the Danish islands of Funen and Zealand (Danish: Fyn and Sjælland). The fourth-longest suspension bridge in the world spans the Great Belt and is divided into two parts by the island of Sprogø.
The western bridge is a box girder bridge between Knudshoved and Sprogø, consisting of two adjacent viaducts, 6611 m long and with a span of 18 metres.
The eastern bridge is a suspension bridge between Sprogø and Halskov. It is 6790 metres long and has a free span of 1624 m. The clearance for ships is 65 metres, meaning that the world’s largest cruise ship would fit underneath with its smokestack folded down.
In winter, when the sun is low on the horizon, the long shadows of the bridge and the two 254-metre-high pylons are clearly visible on the rare clear days.
The railway tunnel from Sprogø to Zealand is 8024 metres long and a maximum of 75 metres deep and runs close to the eastern bridge. The maximum draught of ships passing through the tunnel is limited to 15.4 metres.
