The chain of volcanoes

This chain of three large stratovolcanoes in South America is stretching in an almost straight line perpendicular to the volcanic chain of the Andes. These craters are located quite close to one another separated by 20 – 25 km each. The North West – South East trending Mocha-Villarrica Fault Zone gives rise to the alignment of these volcanoes.

Villarrica (39.420556°S, 71.939722°W, 2,847m) is a very active stratovolcano in Chile,
Quetrupillán (39.503390°S, 71.709210°W, 2,360m) is a stratovolcano in Chile,
Lanín (39.632778°N, 71.499722°W, 3,747m) is a stratovolcano on the border between Argentina and Chile.
